Magnificent villas and estates in the south of Portugal
The largest and most sparsely populated region in Portugal is definitely one of the most beautiful in the country. Picturesque villages and gorgeous castles nestle in the vast landscape of the Alentejo and lend this piece of land an incomparable charm.
Typical of the Alentejo are also the “Montes Alentejanos”, former estates and residences of large landowners. In recent years, many of these buildings have been renovated with much love and taste and, in addition to spacious pools and modern comforts, offer one thing above all: peace and quiet.
Whether as a permanent residence or as a holiday home, the rural villas of the Alentejo are ideal retreats from stressful everyday life. Here you can relax and enjoy the wonderful nature and tranquility.
The Algarve has long been one of the poorest and most remote regions of Portugal; the train line to Faro was completed in 1889 and the first road (now the EN2) was built in 1932. In the 1950’s tourism in the Algarve was still in its infancy. In the year 1951, there were just 4 hotels, 3 guesthouses and 1 guesthouse in the whole region. The breakthrough came in 1965 with the inauguration of Faro airport and the opening of the first 5-star hotels in the following years. Since then, the southernmost region of the country has continued to develop and is now the tourist destination par excellence, accounting for a third of all overnight stays in the whole of Portugal.
The excellent climate, friendly people and beautiful landscapes do not only draw in tourists. Whether as a holiday home or as a main residence, the reasons for buying a house in the Algarve are manifold.
